SafetyCube Presentation at ITF Summit on Transport Safety and Security – May 2018

Prof. George Yannis from NTUA gave a key presentation on the global challenges of road safety data, knowledge and decision support systems in the digital era at the International Transport Forum‘s 2018 Summit on “Transport Safety and Security”. The ITF summit took place on 23-25 May 2018 in Leipzig, Germany. Special focus was also given on the European road safety Decision Support System developed within the SafetyCube project.

SafetyCube Webinar on the DSS – April 2018

On April 10, 2018 at 11.00 CET a webinar on the European road safety Decision Support System (DSS) took place. The webinar concerned a one-hour training session for the use of the DSS, in which the system was presented, including the alternative options and the various queries that users can make in order to have access to the knowledge of the DSS, as well as the available results.

The team of the EU Project SafetyCube presented all functionalities of the powerful tool (www.roadsafety-dss.eu) and provided hands-on examples. Read more

SafetyCube European Conference on Better Decision Making for Road Safety, Vienna – March 2018

SafetyCube-FinConf-pres-Guillaume-Mar2018The SafetyCube European Conference on Better Decision Making for Road Safety was held successfully with more than 150 participants on 22-23 March 2018, at Palais Auersperg in the city centre of Vienna, Austria. The SafetyCube project started on March 1st, 2015 and ran for a period of three years. Its results were presented in the conference, with special focus on the SafetyCube Decision Support System (DSS), which is the primary objective of the project. The DSS is expected to enable policy-makers and stakeholders to select and implement the most appropriate strategies, measures and cost-effective approaches to reduce casualties of all road user types and all severities in Europe and worldwide.

The conference brought together experts, stakeholders and decision makers from across Europe to discuss the latest developments in road safety: European Commission, FERSI, ETSC, IRTAD, FIA, individual research institutes, consultants as well as national, regional and local road safety experts. There was simultaneous interpretation in English and German.

SafetyCube Video on Road Safety DSS in 90 seconds released – March 2018

A video presenting the Road Safety Decision Support System (DSS), developed within the European research project SafetyCube, was recently uploaded on the Youtube Channel. The DSS provides detailed interactive information on a large list of road accident risk factors and related road safety countermeasures. SafetyCube Video on Decision Support System released – March 2018

An overview of the Road Safety Decision Support System (DSS), developed within the European research project SafetyCube, is given in a video which was recently uploaded on the Youtube Channel. The DSS is an innovative tool that will enable policy-makers and stakeholders to select and implement the most appropriate strategies, measures and cost-effective approaches to reduce casualties of all road user types and all severities in Europe and worldwide.

SafetyCube Decision Support System – January 2018

An article on SafetyCube project by prof. Pete Thomas from Loughborough University was published in the second newsletter of the “SaferAfrica: African-European Dialogue Platform on Road Safety” project. The article titled “SafetyCube DSS: the first integrated Road Safety Decision Support System developed in Europe” presents the European DSS developed within the SafetyCube project. The DSS was developed by 17 organisations from 12 different countries and it offers for the first time scientific evidence on a large number of risk factors and related road safety countermeasures. Its main objective is to enable policy makers to substantiate their road safety decisions for actions, measures, programmes, policies and strategies to be implemented at local, national and European level.

SafetyCube Presentations at the 97th TRB Annual Meeting – January 2018

SafetyCube results were presented at the 97th TRB Annual Meeting, which took place on 7-11 January 2018 in Washington, DC. Prof. George Yannis from NTUA presented the European Decision Support System (DSS) being developed within the context of the project. Results from research on serious road traffic injuries in Europe were presented by Wendy Weijermars from SWOV, while Susanne Kaiser from KFV discussed the research carried out concerning the road user related risks and measures, which were included in the DSS, in the TRB IRTAD Special Session.

SafetyCube – Il Notiziario – Strade&Autostrade – November – December 2017

An article on SafetyCube project by Concetta Durso, Project Manager of ERF, was published in the Italian specialised magazine “Strade & Autostrade”.

SafetyCube Presentation at Polis Conference – December 2017

The European Road Safety Decision Support System (DSS) developed within the context of the SafetyCube project was presented by Prof. George Yannis from NTUA at the 2017 Annual Polis Conference on “Transport Innovation for sustainable cities and regions”. The conference took place on 6 and 7 December 2017 in Brussels and was organised by POLIS, the European Cities Network.

SafetyCube Presentation at “International Conference Smart Cities & Mobility as a Service” – December 2017

SafetyCube project results were presented at the International Conference “Smart Cities & Mobility as a Service”, which took place on 7-8 December 2017 in Patras, Greece. Apostolos Ziakopoulos from NTUA discussed the effectiveness of specific Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (i.e. Intelligent Speed Adaptation, Collision Warning and Alcohol Interlock Systems) on driving behaviour and road safety.

SafetyCube Presentation at 10th European Public Health Conference – November 2017

SafetyCube results were presented at the 10th European Public Health Conference: Sustaining resilient and healthy communities, which took place on 1-4 November 2017 in Stockholm, Sweden.  Robert Bauer from KfV presented the results from the research on serious road traffic injuries with emphasis being given on the current practices of measuring serious injuries in the European Union.

SafetyCube Presentation at British Parliamentary Advisory Council – November 2017

On 2 November 2017, Prof. Pete Thomas from Loughborough University presented the European road safety Decision Support System (DSS) to the Parliamentary Advisory Council in the British House of Commons. There were over 50 road safety policy-makers and practitioners as well as Members of Parliament and of the House of Lords. The meeting was also attended by Jesse Norman, the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for the Department for Transport who has responsibility for road safety. There was a considerable interest in the DSS and requests for further information about specific road safety risks and measures.

SafetyCube results were presented at the 30th ICTCT Workshop, which took place on 26-27 October 2017 in Olomouc, Czech Republic. Stijn Daniels from the Vias Institute presented the results from the research on the economic evaluation of road safety measures in the European Union.

SafetyCube project results were presented at the 6th IRTAD International Conference, organised by the International Traffic Safety Data and Analysis Group (IRTAD) and International Transport Forum (ITF/OECD). The conference took place on 10-12 October 2017 in Marrakesh, Morocco. Prof. Pete Thomas from Loughborough University presented the Decision Support System (DSS). Results concerning the economic efficiency evaluation of road safety measures were presented by Wouter Van Den Berghe from the Vias Institute, Wendy Weijermars from SWOV presented the results from the research on serious road traffic injuries and a poster by Eleonora Papadimitriou from NTUA discussed the quantitative impacts of tools developed for detecting and addressing road deficiencies.

SafetyCube Decision Support System Launch – October 2017

The SafetyCube European Road Safety Decision Support System (DSS) was officially launched on 5 October 2017 in Brussels. SafetyCube is a research project funded by the European Commission under Horizon 2020, the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, started in 2015 with primary objective to develop an innovative road safety decision support system. The SafetyCube DSS is a unique and rich road safety resource for every decision maker, stakeholder and expert who investigates road safety risks or reviewing safety countermeasures. The SafetyCube DSS provides for the first time comprehensive links between road safety risk factors and respective countermeasures.
